Speech, When It's Free? When It's Protected
The right to free speech might seem like clear-cut American value, but the law sees shades of gray, especially in public schools. From taking a knee to joining protest marches, what are the rights of students, teachers and staff? Should administrators cut off the microphone if a student goes off script at graduation? May teachers wear "Make America Great Again" hats or "Black Lives Matter" t-shirts? Can off campus speech be regulated if it affects events on campus?
Lisa Mori, attorney, Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost, will help administrators learn how to navigate this challenging topic.
